Having a foot cramp not only causes a great deal of pain, but also makes one unable to function well for that particular time period. If the muscle of your foot is slightly pulled or affected, a cramp may occur. If you are lucky, the cramps would stay for just some minutes, but usually they take a few days till they are completely alright.
The area of the foot at which the cramp takes place is the arch, toes, legs or the calf. Various causes may be accountable for a cramp to take place, such as having a lifestyle that does not involve much movement or exercise, or being slightly overweight.
At the same time, some people may have cramps due to engaging in a lot of sports. No wonder usually athletes end up with foot cramps. Regardless of what the reason is a number of techniques and homemade remedies can cure it.
Firstly, you need to keep your foot in a position that is opposite to the cramp, and hold it there until you feel the cramp disappearing. While keeping it in that position, massage your foot for around ten minutes so that you get some relief.
In case the cramp is because of extensive workout, it is best to use an ice pack and place it on that part of the foot. If the cramp is too harsh, hardly enabling you to move the foot and the pain being unbearable, you may try placing heat on your foot three times per day.
A slight exercise may be tried that helps in recovering the cramp, such as elevating the foot until your waist. If that does not seem to help, you can also tie your foot using an elastic bandage for a couple of days.
It is always best to give your foot some rest in case a cramp has taken place. So try to stay in bed for the time being, instead of putting more strain over it.
