Picking up around one’s room is a great way to come upon long forgotten passions and hobbies, while also allowing one time to ease the mind while completing a simple and productive task. It leaves a person with a sense of accomplishment and abolishes the anxiety and stress produced by the mess. It also gives you a chance to locate lost physical objects that you previously enjoyed, such as a pool cue.
The reason I brought up a cue stick, is because that is what I recently found while emptying out the closet of my room. Discovering this billiard stick caused me to remember that I enjoy pool, a passion that I had long forgotten. So much have I relished the game of pool recently, that it has compelled me to purchase yet another pool stick.
Of course stumbling upon pool sticks, isn’t the only purpose for cleaning ones room. There is also a meditative and calming quality to it. The stress and business of your day-to-day life can cause you to procrastinate the tidying up that you know you will eventually have to do. This procrastination creates anxiety and stress. Restoring ones room removes this stress and anxiety while giving one a moment to consider about whatever they would like to.
Also, there is the negative health qualities of living in a dirty room. Dust and dirt are bad for your health for a multitude of reasons. Foremost of these reasons is the potential sinus irritation and allergies created by dirt and dust. For example, sheets and blankets gradually accumulate dirt and dead skin (dust) overtime created by your body. When you sleep with this accumulation, your sinuses will make you regret it in the morning. Being sick and feeling terrible from allergies causes you less productive and more apt to fall into depression at any possible time.
If finding a hobby or passion, such as billiard sticks and billiards, or rectifying your stress and anxiety, or even benefiting your health are not good enough reasons for you to re-organize ones bedroom, then honestly consider the social aspect for a minute. Who are you more likely to hang out with, a person with a clean bedroom, a pool cue and no allergies? Or perhaps the allergy ridden person that lives in a pigsty and doesn’t even have a billiard stick. I think the answer should be a nonstarter to you.
