People that live their lives with anxiety tend to have a lower quality of life than people who do not. Depending on the severity, they could be stuck at home unable to go outside or function by themselves, or not be able to accomplish the things they love. The gateway theory was previously called the stepping stone theory. This theory states that although marijuana in and of itself is not significantly dangerous, its usage will be a gateway or a stepping stone to more dangerous substances. Through the years marijuana has been postulated as a gateway drug to cocaine, LSD, and heroin. Is there any truth to the theory?

There are many times when people will find themselves dealing with extreme stress. Likewise, there are many situations that make that high levels of stress and anxiety appear. One type of situation we can use for example, is a disaster which can produce high levels of stress. Those types of event often produce the common reactions of strong denial and symptoms of shock. The person who has suffered with extreme stress has a long and difficult road to travel. Many do not have the best or adequate resources and support they can fall back on. It makes the journey much harder and complicates matters in that type of situation. Indeed, some never fully recover which guarantees a lifetime of complex issues and challenges. There have been writings that marijuana is harmful. Thankfully, that assertion cannot be backed up with scientific evidence, so it really is a myth. As more states allow medicinal marijuana for debilitating disease conditions, one question being asked is “Are there addictive properties to marijuana?” With narcotic meds having highly addictive qualities if abused along with the potential for overdose and withdrawal symptoms, it is important to answer the question for marijuana. The answer is one can see a psychologic dependence with marijuana but not a physiologic dependence so it is not a true addiction.
