What cause an attack?
Often, there is no exact cause for panic attacks. Other times, traumatic experiences, conflicts, or situations can trigger attacks and episodes. An attack could occur when a person is subjected to a variety of events or situations almost alike to the past that might “trigger” panic.
Stress is closely linked to panic attacks. Stress at home or at work can all contribute to panic and anxiety. Genetics is also said to cause an attack.
What to Do In A Panic Attack
Panic attacks might be expected to last less than 10 minutes and in rare cases slightly longer.But during this time, you can experience discomfort such as those signs and symptoms described above. When you are having a panic attack, your heart rate increases. For this reason, controlled breathing is principal. Breathe slowly and deeply as you can. Breathe in slowly for 3 counts then hold your breath for the next 3 slow counts. Then, exhale for 3 slow counts..
Do this until you’re calm. If you are able to stand, get up slowly and walk around. Some folks like breathing in to a paper bag. By doing so, you can re-inhale your carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide helps correct the blood acid level that had been disturbed by excessive breathing.
While practicing deep breathing, make an effort to focus your attention away from the cause of panic. Swap your anxious thoughts with cheerful ones. Diversion may also help keep your mind off of the panic trigger.
