Knowing That You Are Having An Anxiety Attack And How To Handle It

It is good to learn about the symptoms of an anxiety attack, especially if you have a lot of stress in your life. Once you have some knowledge about the condition, you will be better able to turn it around before it gets extremely serious.

One of the most common anxiety attack symptoms is tightness in the chest. If you feel as though it is difficult for you to breathe, or you have trouble speaking, it is likely that you are experiencing an anxiety attack. You should find a place to sit or lie down, close to a window or open door if possible. This will allow you to get some fresh air, which will help the muscles in your chest to stop contracting and lower your body temperature.

Tingling in your hands and feet are another sign of anxiety and sometimes can cause pain in your extremities. If you are stretching your muscles or doing exercise regularly then this will help control the pain. The tingling is due to nerve damage, so when you exercise, you will be improving the circulation in your body and strengthening your muscles. Exercise will also improve your breathing, so it is less likely that you will have shortness of breath when you are under extreme stress.

The lack of sleep or too much sleep can also trigger an anxiety attack. If you go to sleep at a decent hour, but wake up several times during the night, or go to sleep early and sleep for more than 10 hours, this could be a sign of severe anxiety. Your doctor may be able to prescribe medication that will help you to sleep through the night, but if you want to try natural supplements, you can also check out valerian root or 5-HTP at your local health food store. If you decide to use the natural supplements they will raise your serotonin level and you will be able to handle stress in a healthier manner.

Digestive problems are also well-documented anxiety attack symptoms. Being sick to your stomach, having problems swallowing food, or loss of appetite are signs of stress. If you experience these or any of the other symptoms mentioned above on an ongoing basis, it’s important that you visit your doctor for an examination and diagnosis of the problem.
