Identifying the Symptoms of Stress

Stress does not affect all individuals in a similar manner although there are fairly common signs. These symptoms of stress can manifest in many ways from our physical health to our personal and professional relationships. Stress and life come hand in hand because we are always bombarded with various demands from family, friends and bosses but we should learn to control our stress levels. If you find that you often experience symptoms of stress, such as the ones we’ll be discussing below, you should seek a way to deal with it, even if it means getting outside help.

Your immune system will be compromised by stress if left unchecked. Stressed out people may seem to be sick all the time, catching random illnesses at the drop of a hat. Granted, the illnesses themselves cause the symptoms but the lowered immunity, as a result of stress, it what allows them in to begin with. You seem to be catching everything and it’s all because of the stress you’re going through. Your allergies aren’t the direct result of stress but the severity of attacks may be. If you really want to stay healthier then you should reduce the stress in your life.

Others may turn to impulse buying as a means of releasing their stress. This can mean impulse buying, going on frequent shopping sprees or gambling. Spending money can be a diversion from whatever is stressing you out, so for a while it makes you feel better. This is not a great idea since the stress of the bills that you might not be able to pay after a therapy session can cause more stress. For this reason you must get a handle on your spending habits before they get out of control.

Impulse buying is another means for dealing with stress often referred to as “retail therapy”. Frequent shopping sprees, gambling or just buying things that you don’t need are considered impulse spending habits. Whatever is stressing you out could be forgotten for awhile if you used shopping as a diversion. This is not a great idea since the stress of the bills that you might not be able to pay after a therapy session can cause more stress. For this reason you must get a handle on your spending habits before they get out of control.

Aggression is another symptom of stress. This often begins with a feeling of being overwhelmed and can end up feelings of despair or hopelessness. It’s obviously best if you can learn to cope with stress before it leads to such conditions, but there are always ways to turn things around, though you may need help in some cases. One of the serious symptoms of stress is depression.

There are many symptoms of stress and just as many ways to deal with them. Change your situation to meet your stress reduction needs rather than simply trying to treat the symptoms. For example, if stress is giving you a headache and you take aspirin, it may get rid of your headache, but the stress can then appear somewhere else. You will improve your overall quality of life by getting to the bottom of what’s causing your symptoms.
