Facts On OCD Schizophrenia

There are times that schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD can simultaneously take place in a person suffering a disorder at a particular time in his or her life. Especially that in cases of OCD, the person suffering from it will most likely have mental issues that affect his or her thoughts as well. It would be likely that the person undergoing obsessive compulsive disorder, develop hallucinations and delusions that could lead to development of a much more worse mental malady. If symptoms are detected early it would be very wise to seek professional help right away to prevent the worsening of the condition as it may lead into something irreversible.

Both schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder appear to affect both genders on an equal level. And such disorders are statistically common to begin around the early to adolescent stages. Often along with OCD, different types of schizophrenia can be manifested into the patient depending on the severity of his or her ill condition. However, there are no data that points to certain consistencies of a specific type of OCD exclusive only to a particular type of schizophrenia as well. Plus the emergence and discovery of new OCD symptoms makes it more difficult for scientists to find that link between schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Obsessions and Delusions

Since the symptoms are so similar, they tend to overlap. Making it harder for professionals to distinguish which symptoms belong to which disorder in a specific point in time.

A very important consideration to take note is that at times delusions are common manifestations of schizophrenia. They are instances wherein the mind produces false thoughts and that they can be very intrusive. Very much like of an obsession where in unwanted and intrusive thoughts infiltrate the mind of the individual suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD.

However, in some cases, obsessions or irrational thoughts are more rooted into physical things in the surrounding. By physical we mean, things that are more perceivable or tangible. In an obsession, the thoughts usually revolve around ideas like sexual aggressions, repetitions, counting and religious scrupulosity and symmetry.

However, sometimes the cases change from time to time and from case to case. Until now, researches are still conducted to finally find the distinction between the two.
